Artist Statement...
- Kashmir Williams
- Exploring the world through the lens of a camera, leaving everything else to the imagination. Using charcoal and graphite to illustrate whatever comes to mind. My art is one of the things connecting me to my peace, liberating me to express an extension of myself. I find an escape in my art. I can’t bare the silence of a blank page so I use the sketch of my pencil, the careful yet care free shading that illuminates the page with iridescent colors of my choosing to give it a voice, my voice. The irony I found in my art is that the only limits there are, are the ones I place on myself. I refuse to limit my artistic expression.
About The Artist
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 28, 1991 and raised on the outskirts of the city. At an early age I had an undeniable interest in the arts both visual and temporal. So consequently I've tried being a musician; playing instruments such as the violin, flute, drums and guitar. My years as a musician were short lived. After watching the movie Tap with Gregory Hines and Savion Glover, I wanted to be a tap dancer. I've danced in art styles such as ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop and pointe since the age of 7. I gained my artistic ambitions from watching my brothers draw and I aspired to be as great as they were. No matter the challenge of any art form, I always tried to reach greatness. Surprisingly, with my first love being Art, I graduated high school with the hopes of becoming a obstetrician. I was accepted to Cabrini College, in Radnor, Pa. majoring in pre-med and biology. After my first semester of my freshman year, I realized where my heart truly was and it was in my art. But what was my medium? Well, along the years I had stumbled upon photography after my parents got me a digital camera for Christmas. I then changed my major to photography and graphic design, as well as schools. I continued my education at Lincoln University where I worked to get my bachelor's in visual arts...
